Journalist / Editor, Porto Secreto (part-time)

Want to join the Secret Media Network team?

We're looking for a talented staff writer to cover the best things to do in Porto, for our upcoming Porto Secreto website and online community.

About us

Fever and the Secret Media Network were founded to help people find the most exciting things to do in their city. We started in Spain, and have grown fast: we’re now in London, New York, Los Angeles, Paris, Lisbon, Madrid, Barcelona and more.

Now we're bringing our signature mix of inspiration and information to Porto, uncovering all the best bits of the city for our readers to enjoy.

About the role:

You'll be the founding editor of Porto Secreto, covering the city with verve and velocity. You'll be...

  • Finding brilliant stories and generating tons of article ideas
  • Writing lots of engaging, informative articles about things to do in Porto and the surrounding area
  • Creating appealing content on behalf of our commercial partners
  • Scheduling social posts and managing content calendars
  • Driving innovation and excellence for our brand, inspiring your fellow editors in cities around the world

It's a part-time, Monday to Friday type of role, and you'll be working alongside a small team of colleagues.

About you

We're looking for someone who has...

  • Flawless written Portuguese (Portugal)
  • At least a year of digital journalism experience, with published examples of work we can look at
  • Pace and discipline, able to deliver work quickly and to deadline
  • Excellent news sense, with a natural instinct for reporting stories that people want to share with their friends
  • A solid understanding of the digital publishing landscape including social media channels, SEO and industry trends
  • Familiarity with Porto, and a passion for food and drinks, arts and culture, going places and doing new things
  • A confident handle on tech – someone able to jump from Wordpress to Google Analytics to Photoshop, using the tools available to improve their work
  • A delightful and determined attitude: someone who's prepared to get stuck in on whatever needs doing, big or small, and who's ready to take on the competition – but have fun at the same time.

This role requires a mix of pure editorial, brand and e-commerce work, so you'll be comfortable jumping between the three as required.

The application process

We recommend applying at the earliest opportunity, as recruitment will close once as soon as we have the right slate of candidates.

Our application process includes a telephone interview, general aptitude test, written test where necessary, and in-person interview (if possible).

To apply, please send your CV along with a cover letter that explains why you'd be a great fit for the role, along with links to any relevant previous work written in Portuguese.
