ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking an experienced Technical Director (Technische Leitung) to support the planning, production, installation, and technical delivery of immersive experiences, exhibitions, and live events in Central Europe. As part of the Fever Originals team, you will collaborate closely with the local producer and project manager, and all technical vendors from early pre-production through installation, testing, and opening. The ideal candidate has a strong background in technical production, particularly in the realm of immersive installations and of live events. You will be responsible for coordinating various aspects of the project, from permit acquisition to installation and integration, ensuring the smooth execution of the experience of the show.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct technical site assessments and evaluate venue readiness for immersive installations.
- Lead technical planning for venue modifications, including electrical distribution, rigging, HVAC, structural requirements, soundproofing, and safety compliance.
- In collaboration with the project manager, coordinate with venue managers, architects, and building contractors.
- Review technical drawings and venue construction plans to ensure compatibility with the IPs’ requirements.
- Produce technical drawings, schematics, and budgets for venue works.
- Ensure all preparatory works comply with German safety and building regulations (e.g. DGUV, VDE, Versammlungsstättenverordnung).
- Coordinate with relevant stakeholders to acquire necessary permits, including but not limited to ecological approvals, city hall permits, and venue agreements.
- Point out any inconsistencies between the creative concepts and the technical rider and/or constraints within the venue.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation: equipment lists, signal flows, floor plans, power plans, risk assessments, installation schedules.
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact for all suppliers and contractors.
- Source and manage vendors for infrastructure work, AV, local set fabrication and installation, machinery requirements, site equipment purchasing, etc.
- Coordinate bids, negotiate schedules, oversee deliveries, and manage onsite installation teams.
- Ensure technical integration between all systems (AV, lighting, show control, interactive elements, IT/network).
- Act as liaison between the Creative studios and on-site teams for installation and technical execution.
- Supervise onsite works to ensure quality, timing, and safety.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and emergency response plans throughout the duration of the project.
- Lead technical installation phases as per project needs (temporary or semi-permanent).
- Manage system commissioning, troubleshooting, calibration, and testing.
- Oversee technical rehearsals and work closely with creative leads to ensure the installation matches artistic intent.
- Support handover to operations staff and deliver training when required.
- Domestic and international travel and work across time zones may be required.
QUALIFICATIONS
You have a successful track record of production management of live events, immersive experiences, and/or permanent attractions. You thrive in a fast-paced environment and pride yourself on your flexible, detailed, analytical mindset. You will have to be comfortable delivering results in an ambiguous environment.
- 10+ years of experience in live event and/or experiences production industry
- Professional fluency in German and English
- Proficiency in permit acquisition processes, including navigating legal requirements and obtaining necessary approvals from authorities
- Knowledge of technical equipment and infrastructure requirements for indoor and outdoor events, including power systems, lighting fixtures, and sound equipment
- Familiarity with safety regulations and emergency response protocols for event operations
- Proven experience in vendor negotiation and management, including sourcing, contracting, and overseeing work quality
- Understanding of fabrication processes
- Have a strong network of vendors and venues
- Ability to manage teams and provide guidance to a team
- Able to communicate with various stakeholders, working collaboratively and willing to be hands-on
- You'll be solution-focused, identifying problem areas and then creating plans to find resolutions
